The Crispiest Tater Tots EVER

I was sitting at home making burgers and I decided that I wanted a BETTER tater tot than what my grocery store had to offer. The secret to a crispy tot is the starch content in the potatoes. So naturally, I went with my trusty go-to Russet. Here is the result.

Tater Tots

That delicious little crispy potato has come home to roost. This little piece of heaven is so easy to make. Once you do the frozen ones just won't cut it

Equipment

  • Pot and Lid
  • Box Grater
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Measuring Spoons
  • Cheese Cloth or Kitchen Towel
  • Thermometer

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Russet Potatoes peeled
  • 1 tbsp. Flour
  • tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder
  • ½ tsp Paprika
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  • Place Potatoes in a pot and cover with cold water, bring to a boil and cook until parboiled, 7-8 minutes, drain and let cool
  • Using a box grater on the fine side, grate Potatoes
  • Using cheesecloth or a clean kitchen towel, squeeze Potatoes dry
  • Place Potatoes in a large bowl, add Flour, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Paprika and season with Salt and Pepper, mix completely, should be dry but workable
  • Form Potato into Tots
  • Heat Oil to350 degrees in a Dutch oven
  • Add Tots to Oil 5-6 at a time, do not over crowd or Tots will be greasy
  • Cook 3-4minutes, drain on a paper towel lined plate
  • Season with Salt and serve hot  

Notes

Crispy Tater Tots With Bleu Cheese
Additional Twist: There are so many things you can do with Tater Tots. Toss in Buffalo Sauce add Blue Cheese and Chives. Make a casserole with Oaxaca Cheese and Red Chili Sauce with some shredded Pork for a pseudo Enchilada dinner
